2024 Biennial Conference: Online Access
The 2024 Biennial Soto Zen Buddhist Association will be held in-person at Pendle Hill Retreat Center in Philadelphia from September 23-26. This year we are pleased to offer online access to several of the offerings. If you are an SZBA member who is unable to attend in-person or if you are simply interested in the programs offered, please join us. All are welcome. The following panels will be available via Zoom:
Tuesday, September 24
11:15 am - 12:15 pm Eastern Time: Cracking the Code: Engaging Young Adults. Engaging Generation Z (born 1996-2010) is key to our future relevance and resilience, but how? A panel of Gen Z’ers will discuss strategies to connect with, engage, and retain their generation. Panelists: Sydney Slavitt, (24), program coordinator, Dharma Gates; Dakota Parmley (25), lay disciple, Dharma Rain Zen Center; Thomas Albanese (33), youth program alumnus, Dharma Rain Zen Center.

9:30 - 11:00 am Eastern Time: Elevating Women’s Voices: Now What? We seem to have made some significant strides in addressing gender equity. But have we really? Continuing to elevate women’s voices is key to our future relevance and resilience. We will discuss the progress we have made, the challenges we still face, and where we go next. Panelists: Konjin Gaelyn Godwin, Houston Zen Center; Kaishin Victory Matsui, Brooklyn Zen Center.
11:15 am -12:15 pm Eastern Time: Expanding Our Dharmic Impact: Leveraging Technology.
COVID was a gamechanger, forcing us into a strange new remote world. Now what? We will explore ways our sanghas can expand our dharmic reach and impact through technology, including, but not only, Zoom. Panelists (confirmed): Matthew Kozan Palevsky, Upaya Zen Center; Sara Shumon Campbell, Angel City Zen Center. *schedule subject to change Registration: The Soto Zen Buddhist Association relies on the generosity of its supporters to offer programming and to provide registration scholarships to members who would otherwise be unable to attend in-person. We suggest a registration fee of $75 for online participation. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds.
