The Soto Zen Buddhist Association relies on the generosity of its supporters to offer programming. All fees offered through registration will be shared with speakers and panelists. We suggest a sliding scale registration fee of $10-15 for online participation. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds.
About the speaker:
Roshi Joan Halifax, Ph.D., is a revered Buddhist teacher, acclaimed author, and influential social activist. As the Founder and Head Teacher of Upaya Zen Center in Santa Fe, New Mexico, she has dedicated her life to teaching and practicing Zen Buddhism.
With a background in anthropology from Columbia University and the University of Miami School of Medicine, Roshi Halifax brings a unique perspective to her work. She is widely recognized as a pioneer in the field of end-of-life care, having lectured extensively on the subject worldwide and received numerous accolades for her contributions.
Roshi Halifax's commitment to compassionate care extends beyond the academic realm. She has worked closely with dying patients and their families, and founded the Project on Being with Dying to teach healthcare professionals and caregivers about the psycho-social, ethical, and spiritual aspects of end-of-life care.
Her impact reaches far and wide, with initiatives like the Upaya Prison Project, which offers meditation programs for prisoners, and the Nomads Clinic in Nepal.
Roshi Halifax is also a prolific author, with notable works such as "Being with Dying" and "Standing at the Edge," exploring themes of compassion, courage, and wisdom.
