In the SZBA’s 20th year since its reconstitution, as we slowly emerge from the unprecedented impact of covid, as we reckon with widespread grief and suffering, the 2021 SZBA Online Gathering plans to offer a time to come together to gather our hearts and minds. As priests we have been on the spiritual frontlines during this extraordinary time. While our work is not done, our vow not fully accomplished, the gathering will afford members the platform to breathe, connect, reflect, inquire, renew and restore.

The September gathering will offer inspiring sessions and ceremonies from Soto lineage leaders - Sosan Flynn (Board President), Joan Halifax, Chozen Bayes, Gyokei Yokoyama, Jiko Nakade, Sarah Dojin Emerson, Chris Fortin and Hojin Kimmel.

The gathering will be framed by ceremonies and infused with sessions where attendees can:

  • Engage formally and informally with our peers
  • Participate in interactive sessions and Dharma talks presented by members
  • Attend a grief ritual to turn towards and acknowledge the many losses: personal, systemic, environmental, global that the past year and a half have brought for us individually and collectively.
  • Express and experience the creativity of our colleagues via poetry, dance, graphic arts and music
  • Sit with new and old friends in a virtual SZBA zendo throughout the conference

Registration:

We offer sliding scale registration and invite you to give as generously as you can, with a suggested registration fee of $50. This event is open to all SZBA members regardless of donation level.

If you are not an SZBA member but are interested in membership, please contact Anna (Operations Coordinator) at info@szba.org for more information. There is still time to join us!
