The Dharma in Each Moment: Studying Dōgen and the Path of Practice-Realization

About this event:

 Studying Dōgen through the lens of Dharma position offers a concise guide to how we experience practice within the context of each moment’s arising and actualization. This complex and complete view of practice offers us the matrix of Dōgen’s vision as well as guidance in skillfully enacting Buddha’s Way.  

Participants will:

• Learn Dōgen’s teachings on each moment’s actualization by seeing the complex unfolding of the Dharma as time and response in our effort to bring forth and simplify our understanding of time and enactment. 
• Reflect on how practice is actualized in daily life.
• Through teaching and dialogue, we will consider what it means to study the relational aspects of practice as particularity, universal non-duality, the eternal now, the self without fixed identity, and the passage of time and transformation of dharma and practice-realization, and to encounter awakening here and now.

Fees:

The Soto Zen Buddhist Association relies on the generosity of its supporters to offer programming.  All fees offered through registration will be shared with speakers and panelists. We suggest a sliding scale registration fee of $10-15 for online participation. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds.

About the speaker:

 Rev. Shinshu Roberts is a disciple and Dharma heir of Sojun Weitsman in the Shunryu Suzuki lineage. She is the author of Being-Time: A Practitioner's Guide to Dōgen’s Shōbōgenzō Uji and Meeting the Myriad Things, A Zen Practitioner’s Guide to Dōgen's Genjōkōan.   A former 17-year resident of San Francisco Zen Center, she later co-founded Ocean Gate Zen in Capitola, California with Rev. Daijaku Kinst  She holds the title of Kokusaifukyoshi (International Teacher) from the Sōtō Zen School in Japan and the rank of Sei Kyoshi, reflecting advanced teaching credentials.
